For many applicants from the provinces, this creates insurmountable obstacles. In connection with these, I am sure M.V. G.Yu. Orlov, Dean of the Faculty of Pre-university Training of the Moscow Architectural Institute, noted that almost 70% of students of preparatory courses enter the Moscow Architectural Institute. According to his observations, in recent years the conditions for applicants to an architectural university have noticeably changed. Until recently, the level of preparedness of an applicant was assessed mainly by how special exams were passed (drawing and drafting), and general education disciplines (literature, mathematics) were assessed by MARCHI teachers as “pass” and “fail”. Today, USE marks are added to the marks in creative disciplines. The shift in emphasis in the selection of applicants makes it possible for an applicant with high scores in the Unified State Examination to outperform potentially talented architects.

Entrance fever has begun in the capital's universities. Applicants are trying to figure out where to submit their documents so that they can study where they want, and so that the points scored on the exam are enough. However, to get into some educational institutions, you still need to pass additional exams. For example, at the Moscow Architectural Institute this is drawing and drafting.

In the morning in the Moscow Architectural Institute it is deserted and quiet. Applicants wake up, as a rule, by lunchtime and already at two o'clock there is a queue in the entire corridor. The procedure is standard, future students must have a passport, certificate, USE results, four photographs. And of course the desire to study at this university.

“I’m applying for an architectural degree, I’ve been preparing since the 7th grade. There were moments of reflection when I couldn’t decide for sure - it’s worth it, it’s not worth it, but as a result, this year I prepared most intensively and realized that this is my specialty,” says applicant Jamil Khisamov.

For two years, Jamil attended preparatory courses. In many universities, this procedure is desirable, but not mandatory. Everything is different at the Moscow Architectural Institute.

"The training program is quite complicated and from the first year they are faced with quite a lot of all sorts of tasks. And the ability to professionally approach these tasks is necessary. Therefore, we cannot afford to admit people who do not know anything at all, otherwise we would have architects did not work out for us," explains Alexander Tsybaikin, executive secretary of the selection committee of the Moscow Architectural Institute.

To be among the lucky ones, you need to be able to do a lot. The first exam is academic drawing. 6 hours boys and girls will draw one single plaster head. And for many this time will be clearly not enough. After all, it’s not enough just to draw what is. You need to show the ability to see through the eyes of an architect.

“We started from the basics. That is, they explained to us the basic principles of constructing figures in space, then it became more complicated to trimmings, then to composition. Then we already switched to heads,” Khisamov recalls.

However, this part of the competition is the least embarrassing for applicants. Almost everyone calls drawing the most difficult exam.

"For me, the most difficult exam will be drawing, because it is the most difficult for me - I don’t understand some points, it’s hard for me to understand. I never had problems with academic drawing, but with drawing. But I hope that I I can handle it," says student Kathryn Deep.

From the Unified State Examination, only two subjects are taken into account here - mathematics and the Russian language. But only high scores guarantee a budget place.

"The results of the USE are included in the number of points that we sum up as a result. And this is about half of the points that an applicant gains during the competition. Therefore, the higher the USE, the better," says Alexei Afanasiev, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of the Moscow Architectural Institute.

Today, there are almost a thousand people who want to enroll. The names of the lucky ones will be announced at the end of July, this year there will be 162 of them on a budgetary basis and 113 on a paid basis.

So the admissions trial of 2015 ended, for which the child had been preparing for 4 years (a year - evening courses, three with tutors from the Moscow Architectural Institute, before that an art school). As a result, they passed to paid, despite the fact that the level of creative (drawing the head and composition) and professional skills (drawing) corresponded to what was necessary to get into the budget of the Moscow Architectural Institute (drawing and drawing - consistently 60 points according to the tutors of the Moscow Architectural Institute), and the USE was high (above 170 points for two subjects). Taking into account that the passing score this year dipped by 15, it was enough for us to get only 50 for three exams. It seemed quite realistic. However, after receiving the results for the first two exams (they are not posted on the website of the university, but are handed out to everyone; only “failures” appear on the website), we realized that at best we will study on a paid basis (subject to receiving a positive mark for drawing). I don’t know what happened last year, but this year they “cut” children (not thieves) thoroughly and unceremoniously, sometimes lowering their grades to an indecent level. An appeal does little. When applying for an appeal, they sarcastically ask: "Aren't you afraid that they will put you even lower?" "Where even lower, it's not my score," replied the son. If you are lucky, after the appeal you will be added a maximum of 5 points, which, in all likelihood, will not be taken into account in the final commission, and your result will remain unchanged. Of our friends who came to the appeal, only one classmate was given 5 points for each drawing: but in the end, instead of the objective 75 and 80, he received 45 + 5 and 50 + 5 points (left out of the budget). The teacher (who taught all these years) said that everyone was equalized this year to about somewhere to the same level ...
Summary: if you did not pay for the budget, and do not want your child to have a psychological breakdown due to the dishonesty of the examiners (because for many years he worked, giving a lot of effort and time to preparation, and you - a lot of money - approx. 350 thousand per year), if your child objectively does not draw and draw with his eyes closed by 80-90 (in this case, it is unlikely to underestimate his mark for drawing below 60 points from the admissions committee, even with a strong desire), and his The USE is not approaching 200 (for two subjects + individual achievements), be mentally prepared for the fact that it is more likely to be outside the cherished budget list. Of course, you have a chance to get on the budget ... And I sincerely wish that it is your child who will realize it (because he has been preparing for more than one year, developing the necessary professional skills, without which it is impossible to study at the Moscow Architectural Institute!). Just be realistic - initially consider the option of studying on a paid basis. Creative test - drawing

For a "clean" architecture, the drawing exam consists of two tasks. On the first day, applicants draw a "head" - a plaster cast from the head of an ancient sculpture. Antinous, Caesar, Aphrodite, Socrates - these names are familiar to those who have studied at least once and know in advance what subjects are needed to enter the architect.

The type of model, the angle is a matter of chance: applicants work ten people in a room, at a strictly defined easel. On sheets of thick paper measuring 30x40 cm, it takes 6 hours to show the ability to correctly compose a drawing, to build and express the volume of the model without distortion, to convey the ratio of light and shadow.

At the second exam in drawing for the specialty "Architecture", models of geometric bodies are offered - a cube, a prism, a cone, a ball, etc. Of the given objects, two of which are mandatory, you need to complete an imaginary three-dimensional composition in 4 hours. All lines of construction of bodies are saved - visible and hidden, their intersection areas and perspective cuts. There should be several sketch options for the composition on the sheet. Hatching is only an auxiliary means for giving expressiveness to a drawing.

In the "Design of the architectural environment" direction, the first part of the creative exam is drawing a still life, a composition of several geometric and natural objects. A graphite or charcoal pencil is used, 6 hours are allotted for work. The second 4-hour test is a planar color composition performed on the basis of the setting of a certain color proposed by the examiners. Technique - water-based opaque paints (gouache or tempera) on paper.

Drawing skill test

Spatial imagination should be possessed by anyone who is attracted to the profession of "architect". What subjects you need to take - you can find out and prepare in advance, but if there are no practical skills in performing orthogonal projections according to the proposed axonometry, there is little chance of enrolling.

Modern drawings are made in special computer programs, and the ability to draw lines using a T-square or compass seems to be archaic. But in addition to these professional skills, at the drawing exam in 4 hours you need to show the ability to represent from an axonometric image what the plan and side views of an object look like, with a section in one of the views. Theoretical knowledge on the competent design of the drawing, the execution of inscriptions, etc. are also evaluated. The speed of work is important - pencil lines must be circled with ink. The requirements for future students who want to engage in “clean” architecture are high: there were 328 budget places at the Moscow Architectural Institute in 2015.
