Moscow will traditionally celebrate City Day on the first Saturday of September. In 2015, the holiday falls on September 5th. A rich program of festive events awaits all Muscovites and guests of the capital, which will end with colorful fireworks.
In 2015 Moscow will celebrate its 868th anniversary. Many festive events dedicated to the City Day will take place in the capital.
The main theme of the festive events will be "Triumphal Moscow".
On Moscow City Day 2015, about 500 events will take place in the capital - concerts, festivals, marches of orchestras, free tours. In the evening, at 22-30, fireworks will thunder in all districts.

Events on the Arbat
This year the main pedestrian street of Moscow will celebrate City Day for 3 million rubles. This budget is planned to be spent on organizing a small and large concert venue.
Well-known musical groups, theater and film artists will perform at a large concert venue. Everyone will be able to perform on the small stage.

City Day, a bit of history
The history of the celebration of the City Day goes back to the 19th century. The first celebration on this, then still new, occasion took place on January 1, 1847. A decree was issued, authored by Emperor Nicholas the First, where it was said that a holiday would be organized in honor of the 700th anniversary of the founding of Moscow. Residents of the city gathered in the center to witness an unusual show - illumination from tallow bowls. However, it was windy that day, which prevented the performance from lasting long. Special services dedicated to this significant date were held in the capital's churches and temples.
After one century, in 1947, Moscow already celebrated its 800th anniversary, but not on the 1st, but on the 7th of September. The city was decorated with numerous images of leaders and symbols of the Soviet era. After dusk, fireworks were launched. Several decades later, according to the decree of Boris Nikolaevich Yeltsin, it was decided to celebrate City Day in early September. Food fairs opened all over Moscow, and the population walked along them and made purchases.
In 1997, when Yuri Luzhkov was already mayor of Moscow, City Day, or rather its 850th anniversary, was celebrated in a new way: musicians and actors performed in front of the audience on several stages installed in the city. So, the performances were held on Cathedral and Tverskaya squares, in the State Central Concert Hall "Russia", in Luzhniki. Since then, City Day has been celebrated annually.

Preparations for the celebration are already in full swing: it is reported that the witnesses of the festival will have something to be surprised at. As part of the City Day 2015 celebrations, Moscow will host the Spasskaya Tower Military Music Festival. On September 5 and 6, demonstration performances by the Cavalry Escort of the Presidential Regiment, the Kremlin Riding School, as well as interactive programs for children and a performance by the famous French acrobat Lorenzo will take place on Red Square. He will arrive in the capital with the program "Librete Emotion" - a unique show of its kind with the participation of horses.
