The tragedy occurred when the pilgrims were returning home. It was about 12 at night. The driver of the bus carrying them lost control on a very difficult section of the track, where the descent is quite steep and the turning angle is approximately 180 degrees. And besides, due to road works, there was a partial lack of a fence. One of the first on the site of the tragedy were residents of the neighboring village of Khokhotuy. They say that it was possible to find out about the accident thanks to an elderly woman who, by some miracle, got onto the highway and reported the incident to a passing driver.

Employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the police, the investigative department and doctors of the Petrovsk-Zabaikalsk regional hospital worked at the scene.
