ITMO University hosted the last meeting of the Academic Council of the university this year. On December 26, the results of research and development work carried out at the university for a year were presented by ITMO University Vice-Rector for scientific work Vladimir Nikiforov, and about the new educational standards of ITMO University for the organization educational activities said the First Vice-Rector of ITMO University Daria Kozlova.

The last meeting of the Academic Council in 2017 began with the presentation of awards and diplomas to ITMO University students who took places in competitions different levels. The outgoing year will be remembered not only for the victory in the ACM ICPC championship, thanks to which the university became the seven-time winner of the world champion title in sports programming. Several high-profile victories were won by the robotics of the university.

So, in early November, the ITMO University school team under the guidance of a coach Igor Lositsky"gold" in the senior age category of the World Robot Olympiad WRO-2017, an international competition for talented schoolchildren and students from more than 60 countries. And most recently, the team took second place in the On Stage nomination among juniors at the RoboCup Asia-Pacific competition, where they presented the already famous Seldon robot.

The student team of robotics also successfully performed at international competitions. At the end of November, first-year students of ITMO University won the first place in the Robotex-2017 competition, which has recently become the largest robotics competition in Europe.

2017 was also rich in victories for ITMO University's Technopark, whose residents brought several awards from international competitions at once. In particular, on the eve of ITMO University's Technopark resident company "ATG Service Gen" "Best Innovations" in the field of biotechnology at the SmartBiz Expo exhibition in Hong Kong. In addition, the company won three gold medals for pharmacological products.

This year, the Optics Museum of the university was replenished with new exhibits. In cooperation with the Hellenic Institute of Holography and the Gokhran of Russia, university scientists created a collection of 20 optoclones with images of historical jewelry from the collections of the Diamond Fund of Russia and the State Fund for Precious Metals and Precious Stones Russian Federation. In October, the exhibits were presented at an exhibition in Moscow, in the Andreevsky Hall of the Kremlin, the exposition was visited by the first persons of the country, as well as the curators of the largest European collections, who became interested in the results of the work.

As the professor of the Department of Physics at ITMO University said, five holograms can already be viewed at the Museum of Optics, which is located in the university building on Birzhevaya Line, 14. In addition, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, who previously visited the exhibition, expressed confidence that the opportunity to see unique Holograms should also be received by residents from other regions of the country.

At the final meeting of the Academic Council of ITMO University this year, students who excelled in all-Russian and international sports competitions were also awarded.

Speaking about the results of R&D competitions, he first of all noted the active involvement and interest of students in participating in projects. At the same time, the quality of student R&D is growing every year and, in terms of the level of project development, is not inferior to “adult” development work, Vladimir Nikiforov emphasized.

For example, at the Department of Mechatronics under the guidance of a graduate student Dmitry Kupriyanov an educational mechatronic complex for the study of robotics is being conducted, and at the Department of Applied and Computer Optics, students are working on two projects. One of them includes the development of an optical labyrinth, and the other is the creation of a universal stand for basing control mirrors up to 200 mm in diameter. According to its leader, a student of the department Igor Lapkaev, the idea of the project came from production: when assembling and adjusting the control circuits, a significant drawback of the existing stands was revealed, in particular, when the frame with the control mirror was tilted, the top of the control mirror shifted from its original position ( You can read more about this project, as well as about other promising developments financed by the university. "These works meet the requirements“adults”experimental design work, so I want to note that our university has a line of activity in which our students demonstrate themselves as absolutely mature designers. This trend, in my opinion, will contribute to the resumption and restoration of engineering and design training at ITMO University”, Vladimir Nikiforov emphasized to the members of the Academic Council.

The total volume of R&D in 2017 amounted to 2.625 billion rubles, which is almost 300 million more than last year, and is the highest figure in recent years. In general, speaking about the results of organizing and conducting R&D in 2017, ITMO University’s Vice-Rector for Research noted that the university’s departments are still very active when applying for competitive funding. Besides, in last years the practical orientation of scientific research has grown significantly.

However, next year the university needs to increase orders on a contractual basis, said Vladimir Nikiforov. A large amount of research and development work carried out on orders from high-tech enterprises in the real sector of the economy speaks of the demand for R&D and ensures their financial stability, he stressed.

Among other tasks facing the university in 2018, Vladimir Nikiforov singled out further development scientific centers world-class, as well as the development and implementation of a system for creating dissertation councils and awarding academic degrees from ITMO University. Recall that in 2017 ITMO University was among 19 Russian universities the right to independently award degrees Candidate and Doctor of Science, create dissertation councils and establish their powers. The corresponding order was published on the website of the government.

Another report at the final meeting of the Academic Council this year was presented by the First Vice-Rector of ITMO University Daria Kozlova, who spoke about the formation of new educational standards (OS) of ITMO University to organize the educational activities of the university.

The development of new educational standards is carried out in the context of the roadmap for the development of the university for 2018-2020, which was also adopted at the Council for Improving the Competitiveness of the Leading Universities of the Russian Federation among the world's leading scientific and educational centers. As a reminder, according to the results of evaluating the effectiveness of the universities participating in Project 5-100 this year, ITMO University entered the leading group along with the National Research University Higher School of Economics, National Research Nuclear University MEPhI, Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, Novosibirsk State University, National University of Science and Technology MISiS and Tomsk State University. Also, the roadmap of the university was at the seventh meeting of the International Council of ITMO University.

« The development of education is the main focus of our strategic plan for the next three years, as well as for the longer term. In the roadmap we have given great attention requirements for the graduate, transformation of the educational process, new technologies for the implementation of educational activities at the university. In this context, freedom of choice and the possibility of drawing up individual trajectories is what we are striving for. And we incorporated this understanding into the ITMO University roadmap., — emphasized Daria Kozlova.

She also noted that ITMO University, being an open university, does not see its development without intensive interaction with leading academic and industrial partners. That is why the further transformation of educational activities will be carried out in accordance with the concept of a network university and in close cooperation with companies.

When developing new standards, federal state educational standards, as well as professional standards and requirements that modern industry imposes on graduates. However, in addition to this, key trends in the development of science, foresight data, as well as international experience were taken into account.

As Daria Kozlova emphasizes, the main features of the implementation educational programs based on the educational standards of ITMO University, it will be possible to develop along individual educational trajectories. In addition, students will no longer be limited to just one department or faculty: intra-university mobility will become one of the tools for ensuring student integration and communication and will allow students to take modules and disciplines from other faculties and mega-faculties within their specialty, noted the First Vice-Rector of ITMO University.

As for the implementation of international programs academic mobility, here, as Daria Kozlova added, one of the tasks is further work to simplify the process of student participation in such programs.

« We understand that now this process is sometimes slowed down due to bureaucratic procedures, so we are faced with the task of facilitating the implementation of mobility programs, both domestic and international", she stressed.

According to the new standards, the educational program is approved as a unit of educational activity. At the same time, the role of the head of the educational program becomes strategic. It is also worth noting that educational standards do not limit the form of implementation of English-language master's programs. As Daria Kozlova notes, this can be like a classical form (according to which the educational process in most faculties), and the modular organization of the educational process.

In conclusion, she added that after the approval of their own standards, the specialists of the university, as well as the heads of mega-faculties and departments, still have to work intensively. According to the schedule, the implementation of educational programs based on the new OS of ITMO University will begin on September 1, 2018.

The HSE Nizhny Novgorod campus and ITMO University signed a cooperation agreement, which includes a wide range of activities: the creation of joint educational programs, work with start-ups and the development of youth entrepreneurship, incl. within the framework of the master's program "Management".
