The Volga Region Academy of Sports and Tourism is one of 14 sports universities in Russia.

The Volga Region State Academy of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism trains teachers of physical culture and coaches of sports schools, exercise therapy instructors and employees of sports and recreation rehabilitation centers, sports managers and managers for relevant departments, organizers of mass physical culture and sports events, specialists in the field of tourism and service.

The Volga Region State Academy of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism was established by the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation in July 2010 as part of the implementation of the 2013 Universiade Legacy Concept. In general, the history of the sports university has 43 years.

Mission:

Volga State Academy of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism" is the first physical culture and sports university in the Volga Federal District and an industry university in Russia, which has the best conditions in Russia and modern programs that provide training for specialists and athletes highly qualified, development and implementation of advanced scientific technologies and products, based on the integration of quality vocational education and sports training, scientific and applied research. The Academy effectively solves industry problems, combining the interests of the individual and the state, is widely known and enjoys authority in the professional community in Russia and abroad.

The Volga Region State Academy of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism was established by the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation in July 2010 on the basis of the Kama State Academy of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism with the preservation of a branch in Naberezhnye Chelny. At one time, KamGAFKSiT was created on the basis of the branch of the Volgograd State Academy of Physical Culture located in Naberezhnye Chelny.

The Volga Region State Academy of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism trains teachers of physical culture and coaches of sports schools, exercise therapy instructors and employees of sports and recreation and rehabilitation centers, sports managers and managers for relevant departments, organizers of mass sports and sports events, specialists in the field of tourism and service.

For the implementation of scientific, educational and training processes, the academy has a new modern educational and laboratory building, which was built on the territory of the Universiade Village and will be put into operation in academic year. At the moment, the Volga Academy has four sports facilities built in preparation for the Universiade - the Burevestnik swimming pool, the Kazan Tennis Academy, the Zilant Ice Palace, and the track and field stadium. In the near future, the existing Center for Rowing Sports, the newly built Gymnastics Center, as well as the Water Sports Palace under construction will be transferred to the balance of the academy. All seven high-tech sports facilities will host the competitions of the World Summer Universiade 2013. In addition, in the residential cluster "C" of the Universiade Village there are 3,700 places for non-resident students, graduate students, members of teams and faculty.

The educational and laboratory building and three sports facilities of the academy are located in the Privolzhsky district of Kazan, on the territory of the Universiade Village. This is a new campus format for Russia, designed for students to live, study, work and spend active holidays. All conditions for a comfortable and safe life have been created here: in each residential building there is a laundry, a first-aid post, an Internet and video room.

Among the graduates of the Volga Academy are outstanding athletes: Olympic champion in the hurdle race Gulnara Galkina-Samitova, three-time champion of Russia, striker of the St. Petersburg "Zenith" Alexander Bukharov, master of sports of international class in the marathon, participant of the Olympic Games in Atlanta Firaya Sultanova-Zhdanova, master of sports of international class in swimming - European champion, participant of the Olympic Games in Athens Alexei Zatsepin and many others.

The Academy will become an international center of sports life. On the basis of the university opened the International Education Centre FISU, focused on the training of foreign specialists. In addition, the Training Center for the reserve of Russian national sports teams, provided for as part of the academy, will bring together the best athletes of the country at the new educational site. In the structure of the university, the Institute for Advanced Studies and Retraining of Personnel was opened, and it is also planned to open high school trainers and the Research Institute of Sports Physiology and Rehabilitation.
